Mensa News

Save the date - Saturday May 8.

Central Pennsylvania Mensa has THREE events planned that day for our members.

First, we are hosting a Leadership Development Workshop (LDW) / Pep Rally for our chapter. This LDW is open to all Mensans, but is especially recommended for Mensans in leadership positions, those who intend one day to be leaders, SIG coordinators, and volunteers. Our special guest for the event is Dave Remine. Dave has served as Chair of both American Mensa and Mensa International. Seating is limited to 20 for this event, so we must limit attendance to Mensa members only. Please RSVP as soon as possible to reserve your seat to Marc Lederman.

Date: May 8, 2010

Time: 10 AM to 4 PM

Place: The home of Spero Lappas - 2266 Forest Hills Drive Harrisburg, PA.

Cost: Absolutely free, and we'll even feed you throughout the day.

Schedule:

  • 10 AM: Introduction by Marc Lederman, our Region 2 Vice-Chairman. Get to know other attendees.
  • 11 AM: Welcoming new members
  • 12 PM Lunch
  • 1 PM Getting People involved - Volunteering in Mensa
  • 2 PM Team-building in the Mensa Community
  • 3 PM All that Mensa has to offer

But wait, there's more.

At 4 PM, our Executive Committee (ExCom) will be meeting to discuss the business of our chapter. All members are welcome to attend the meeting.

But wait, there's even more.

At 6 PM, we will have our semi-annual new member welcoming party. This is open to all members, old and new. Members are welcome to bring a guest to this party. And just like the LDW, the cost is absolutely free, and we'll feed you.

We'd like to see you at one, or all, of these events on May 8. Please RSVP to Marc Lederman.

Central PA Mensa now offers E-Publication of Newsletters

You asked, we listened. Already we have 47 members signed up for electronic distribution of the Penn Central Newsletter. This means: 47 members will have received the latest news and updates before you did; 47 members will get to see their friends’ pictures in color; and 47 members will be the first to know what events are happening in your area.

Want to sign up for e-distribution? Sign up in 4 easy steps.

1. Log on to www.us.mensa.org. If you haven’t logged on before, the Login ID is your member number and you should use the password provided by the national office. If lost, you can reach them by calling 817-607-0060.

2. Click on Profile Update. 2a. Within your profile, provide your e-mail address. 2b. Then check the box near the bottom that says, “I would like to receive publications electronically if available.” 2c. Remember to click SUBMIT!

3. In the left menu, click PDQ Update. 3a. Check the box that says, “Release my email address within the organization.” 3b. Remember to click SUBMIT!

4. Log out.

Not sure if you want an e-distribution? Go ahead, give it a whirl and then decide. You can always change your options back if you decide it’s not for you.

It may take a newsletter cycle for the national office to notify us and have your update take effect prior to distribution.

American Mensa's Web team is proud to announce our newest Web service that we know you'll appreciate: online archives of the Mensa Bulletin!

If you've been looking for an article you read last year, if you're traveling abroad and want to catch up on back issues, or if you're new to Mensa and want to learn what Mensa is all about, you can now browse back issues of the magazine in our online archive at www.us.mensa.org/bulletin. Select Online Bulletin Archive from the left menu.

The Mensa Bulletin online archive includes issues prior to the current month. At this time, we do not have plans to offer electronic-only subscriptions of the Bulletin, so you will continue to receive the print magazine via the regular mail. New issues will be added to the archive monthly, and past years' archives will be added as time allows.

Please note that the archive pages are graphic-intensive and may load slowly. Via highspeed connections, individual pages will display within 5-10 seconds and have been sized to balance download time with readability. Also note that you will need Adobe Flash Player, version 8 or higher, installed in order to view these pages.
